In an era of multi-gigahertz CPUs and power hungry video cards it has become increasingly difficult to efficiently cool one's computer. Highspeed fans are becoming much more prevalent in today's high performance PCs as water cooling remains expensive. As a result, our computers can sound like a jet engine capable of driving many people insane. QuietPC.com has sent us their sound dampening kit the AcoustiPack Deluxe designed to reduce harsh sound that many highspeed fans can make.
The Kit
QuietPC's AcoustiPack Deluxe is the cream of the crop in their lineup of sound dampening kits, and comes with more than enough dampening foam for one or possibly even two computers. A precursor to their upcoming AcoustiPack 2 the kit comes with:
2 x Acoustic Composite sheets - 12.5mm thickness (2.5mm Acoustic Barrier Mass and 10mm Acoustic Foam)
2 x Acoustic Barrier Mass sheets - 2.5mm thickness
1 x Acoustic Foam sheet featuring the AcoustiContour? anechoic surface
2 x 5? inch drive bay Acoustic Foam blocks
1 x 3? inch drive bay Acoustic Foam block
There are three different kinds of acoustic material included in this kit each designed to fit different areas of the case. The thicker the material the better it is able to absorb sound, and QuietPC's thickest unit has what they call the AcoustiContour surface. The surface of this unit has "valleys" designed to minimize sound wave reflection similar to the same design employed in recording studios.
