About a month ago Swedish developer LIUtilities sent us one of their newest creations, WinTasks 4 Professional. To tell you the truth, at first glance I did not think much of the $37 ESD ($57 boxed) WinTasks 4 Professional. It basically looked like something that you can download for free. However, after about three weeks of using this program my first impressions proved to be incorrect; WinTasks 4 is one of the coolest tweaking programs I have used in quite some time.

The program was sent to me all the way from Sweden, and was packaged in a DVD style case with a little manual tucked snugly inside. As stated on the box, this program is designed for managing computer resources, improving system security, and optimizing and debugging software. All this is done through WinTasks' extremely smooth, easy-to-use interface.


The Software

Upon launching the software you would notice that the interface looks a bit like Windows' task manager as it lists each process running, though this program goes into much greater detail. By selecting a process WinTasks will give you a brief description of what the process does, and by right clicking on the process you can set the priority of the process, edit the name of the process, and stop the process. You can also write personal notes for each process in the lower right-hand corner.


You will notice that the program also displays the priority of the process, number of threads it's using, the CPU usage, memory usage, and starting date and time of the process. All of these items can be extremely useful in diagnosing problems with software, or the cause of a system crash.
