"We're of course nothing more than worried for CS, afraid that the endless hours of enjoyment will eventually start to fade..."

Although none of this should come as much of a surprise, Gooseman has always stated that he was working towards a final version and we think everybody knew by Beta 6.2 that things were getting close. So whether commercialisation will have such a lasting effect on the title is difficult to answer, although you won't get it from valve or the CS team, it'd be arrogant to expect the opposite/honest/true answer from a commercial partnership.

Despite that the CS team have already delayed the v1.1 update much longer than it might have taken normally and we doubt there will be anymore major updates from now on. As many will be aware, few servers run unofficial maps and those that do rarely have the selection you want anyway.

An Uneasy Future

We're of course nothing more than worried for CS, afraid that the endless hours of enjoyment will eventually start to fade, through lack of new 'Official maps' or general gameplay additions. When there is nothing fresh on offer all you can do is rot and wait to be dissolved into the world around you.

Perhaps if the CS team put their 'Official' tag on some more entertaining and possibly innovative as_ and de_ maps or map packs then things might improve. We don't know if we could stand another round of the done-to-death de_prodigy, de_train, de_nuke and cs_assault, although they are only four of many, it's almost as thou they are also the only four severs ever rotate!
