MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

posted: Sunday October 3rd 2004 2:31 pm by: Ryan

PCStats has posted a review of the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Motherboard:

Over the next few pages PCstats will be sussing out the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard to see just how it performs, and the features it offers up. Built upon the nVidia nForce3 Ultra chipset, the MSI K8N Neo2 supports the socket 939 AMD Athlon64 or AthlonFX processor, and will support up to 4GB of PC3200 DDR memory. With respect to its onboard components, users of the MSi K8N Neo2 Platinum will find two onboard Gigabit NICs, IEEE1394 Firewire, 7.1-channel audio, four Serial ATA ports with NVRAID (RAID 0, 1, 0+1), and MSI's own CoreCell technology. That might not sound like a lot, but remember the four Serial ATA channels are integrated, as is Serial ATA/IDE RAID, and all this runs us about $140USD.

Samsung SyncMaster 192MP 19

posted: Sunday October 3rd 2004 2:27 pm by: Ryan

Bonafidereviews have just posted a review of the Samsung SyncMaster 192MP 19" Multifunctional Display:

Today we look at Samsung's new 192MP 19" LCD monitor, a multifunctional display unit with the capability to perform as a monitor, TV (using its optional TV tuner) , or both with its PIP (Picture-in-Picture) feature. It accepts inputs from pretty much any video device you can think of (ie: PC, Air/Cable TV, DVD, VCR, Camcorder) and comes HDTV ready. This is the first multifunctional display that we've been able to review, and from the press release and spec. sheet, this monitor looks very promising.

Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 501

posted: Sunday October 3rd 2004 2:25 pm by: Ryan

Virtual-Hideout has just posted a review of the Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 501. As usual, Stygian gives you an in-depth look into the combo. Here's a snip from the review:

I was very impressed with the LX 501. Initially, I was worried that this setup would just be a cosmetic makeover and not one that would increase the effectiveness of the keyboard and mouse, and their ease-of-use. But my fears were quickly allayed when I started using the devices. They were extremely comfortable to use, and despite the layout differences, I didn't have too much of a hard time getting used to them. Both the keyboard and mouse offered good tactile feedback when their keys or buttons were activated, and I believe the layout changes do aid in helping improve usage. I did this entire review using this keyboard and mouse combination and didn't have any major complaints - in fact, I found it very appealing!

ASUS AX800XT/2DT PCI-Express

posted: Sunday October 3rd 2004 2:22 pm by: Ryan

Hexus.net has checked out ASUS's new R423-based card; an X800XT on PCI-Express. It's a fairly small sized card, all things considered, and has a pretty well thought out cooling solution:

The ASUS AX800XT/2DT package has a number of positive features going for it. The card is small, well-built, quiet, and looks damn good. The very fact that you can pop it into a small PCIe-based system is a real bonus. ATI/ASUS also use a native PCI-Express design with no bridge chip in between. The benefits of the faster PCIe link won't manifest themselves until applications require massive streaming from motherboard to GPU (and vice-versa), but it's nice to know that architectural bottlenecks aren't going to hold up progress.

Corsair Pro Twin-X

posted: Friday July 30th 2004 7:45 am by: Ryan

Club Overclocker just posted a review on Corsair?s XMS3200XL Pro Twin-X memory. Here's a clip:

In retrospect, The XL is a whole new kind of memory that is the ultimate in low latency for better overall throughput. Basically this memory gives you that extra edge no matter what speed you run it at. You also get the addition of Corsairs LED that gives you a good idea how active your memory is. Of course their really is no real use for the LED's other than cosmetic, although you could diagnose problems if the memory is run in dual channel and one stick may run a little off. Another aspect that we witnessed in our testing lab is the improved application of Corsair's heatspreader. It seems to be compressed enough to cover all of the memory modules.

Techware Labs has just completed an article on AMD's Socket A Sempron 2800+ and the Socket 754 Sempron 3100+. Here is a clip:

AMD has just released its latest processor line, the AMD Sempron. The Sempron is designed to replace the Duron line of lower-performance, inexpensive processors aimed at home and business desktop users. Available in both Socket A and Socket 754, the Sempron offers good performance for its price, and has good potential for overclocking.
