SiS 315 Graphics Chip Review

posted: June 27, 2001 @ 4:30 EDT by: ryan

Chick's Hardware have posted their first review of the new 3D graphics chipset from SiS, the 315. Their reference card is made with the final silicon and sports 32MB SDRAM, TV-Out and DVI! The new chipset is made as a budget card and is targeted to take on NVIDIA's MX200 range. Will they succeed? Here's a snip:

"SiS are taking a step forward in the development of their graphics division, they introduce the new SiS 315 3D video chipset, will it be the next generation 3D chipset or will it just be another wild goose chase, leaving NVIDIA back at the top?"

X-bit labs has posted High-End IDE RAID Controllers Roundup. They tested three IDE RAID controllers, which deserve being called High-End products. They are: 3ware Escalade 6400, Adaptec AAA-UDMA and Promise SuperTrak100. Creative DTT2200 5.1 Review

posted: June 26, 2001 @ 9:20 EDT by: ryan

T-break have just published a review of Creative/Soundworks DTT2200 5.1 Speaker System. Here's a bit from the review:

"The DTT2200 speaker set is the budget 5.1 solution for people who own the Live 5.1 cards. If you cross check the speaker and subwoofer output with the earlier FPS2000 Digital speakers model, you’ll see that the older set has a slightly higher RMS rating than the newer 2200s on both speakers and subwoofer. Total output of course for the 2200 will be higher if/when using all the 5 speakers and subwoofer."

ThermalRight SK6 Review

posted: June 25, 2001 @ 11:16 EDT by: ryan

IANAG finished up their review of the ThermalRight SK6:

"Above the heatsink in the middle you can see a plastic bag which contains a thermal pad, you can just throw that out, no I am serious, throw it out and get yourself some silver thermal paste. I didn't even bother testing the thermal pad on this heatsink. I was glad to see ThermalRight had the foresight not to ship it with the thermal pad on the heatsink it saves me the trouble of scraping it off."

Gigabyte GA-7DXR Review

posted: June 24, 2001 @ 10:32 EDT by: ryan

Our friends over at PenStarSys have posted up their review of the Gigabyte GA-7DXR AMD 761 mainboard. Here is a quote:

"The original 7DX was almost a proof-of-concept design that was sorely lacking in features, but had good performance and showed the potential of the DDR platform. Gigabyte listened carefully to the reviewers and OEM’s of the world, and decided to one up themselves and make a board that will appeal to the performance/DIY crowd, and still have the stability and useable features that OEM’s desire. Unfortunately for OEM’s, the 7DXR turned out to be more feature packed than expected, and the price tag is very unpalatable for that crowd. However, the performance users now have a very impressive platform to base their DDR aspirations upon. Lets go into the details of this board."

Asus v8200 GF3 Review

posted: June 22, 2001 @ 11:44 EDT by: ryan

IANAG has posted up a review of one of the few non-reference GeForce 3's the v8200 is a good overclocker and comes with a nice software package. I have given the v8200 the best value award so read the review and find out why:

"If you take a close look at the wires coming from the fan you will notice there is three not just two. The third is for counting the RPM's, ASUS comes with a utility that allows you to monitor fan speed as well as voltages and temperatures. This feature probably exists on other cards but this is the first video card I have reviewed that has it."
